Baroque opera returns to the Teatre Principal with one of Antonio Vivaldi’s landmark works.

Although it is rarely performed today, Orlando furioso has rightfully earned its place among the masterpieces of the Baroque opera repertoire. This year marks the 300th anniversary of the premiere of Antonio Vivaldi’s opera, which combines arias and recitatives and is based on Ludovico Ariosto’s epic poem of the same name.

Although Orlando furioso is rarely performed today, it has earned its place among the masterpieces of the Baroque operatic repertoire. A Discovery: Guernica

A recovery of musical heritage. A complex project that began with the recovery of a score tucked away in a remote corner of the National Library of France, and continued with the assembling of an outstanding cast of first-rate artists to bring this very special music to life. A French opera, premiered in Paris in 1895, with a Basque theme —the Carlist Wars— and Gernika as its setting, with Gernikako Arbola as a fundamental melodic theme. A kind of Romeo and Juliet set in the historic town of Gernika during the Second Carlist War.

Their comings and goings, courtship, and romantic adventures are interwoven with the political intrigues in which they unexpectedly become deeply involved: the Marquise of Bierzo seeks to overthrow Minister Grimaldi in order to promote the Count of Floridablanca.
